ABOUT THE PROJECT
Kings of Lesotho is an immersive 360' virtual reality experience that takes audiences on a journey through the royal history of the Basotho nation, from King Moshoeshoe I, the founder of the nation, to King Letsie III, the current monarch.
Through cinematic landscapes, cultural reenactments, and spatial story-telling, the project blends heritage and technology to preserve and share Lesotho’s identity, offering a powerful, educational, and visually engaging experience for global audiences.
The story begins on top of Thaba Bosiu Mountain, where an ancient Basotho village comes to life through everyday activities, oral storytelling, music, and historical narration. Audiences then travel through significant royal sites and beautiful landscapes across Lesotho, including Matsieng, Mafeteng, Mokhotlong, Kome Caves, Katse Dam, Maletsunyane Falls, Morija, and finally Makonyane Square in Maseru. This journey introduces the life and contribution of each monarch in the royal succession while simultaneously showcasing Lesotho’s natural beauty and cultural identity.
The project combines heritage preservation with immersive technology, creating a first-of-its-kind historical and cultural experience in Lesotho. It aims to preserve Basotho history for future generations, and the touring potential of the project lies in its ability to carry an authentic Basotho historical and cultural experience into international exhibition spaces while remaining strongly connected to the communities, archives, and landscapes from which it originates

ABOUT THE ARCHIVE
The Royal Archives, Museum & Information Centre in Matsieng, Lesotho, holds records of cultural, political and administrative significance relating to the governance of Lesotho, particularly during the colonial period.
The collection includes correspondence ranging from local chiefs to the Paramount Chief, later King, as well as photographic records of King Moshoeshoe II and Queen Mother ‘Mamohato Bereng Seeiso at public, ceremonial and state events.

Itumeleng Sekhamane is a Lesotho based filmmaker with an MFA in Film and Television Production. She specialises in writing and producing, and is currently a lecturer at the National University of Lesotho.
Philip Leteka
Co-Director
Phillip Leteka is a Maseru-based writer, filmmaker, photographer, and Fulbright Scholar with an MFA in Filmmaking. His work spans short stories, documentaries, and narrative shorts.
Telmo dos Reis
Technologist
Telmo dos Reis, founder of VRCapture, is an award-winning immersive media director with extensive experience creating VR, AR, XR, and fulldome content with a focus on conservation, cultural heritage, and science communication.
Moleboheng Khothatso
Trainee Assistant Producer
Moleboheng Khothatso is a BA (Hons) graduate in Digital Film and Television. She is a filmmaker, producer, and storyteller.
